We thought things were going well
Kira was taken back to the vets on Friday with very red and swollen eyes. The vet examined her and explained that she had Uveitis (Uveitis specifically refers to inflammation of the middle layer of the eye, termed the “uvea” but in common usage may refer to any inflammatory process involving the interior of the eye) She also had fibrous build up in both eyes. The vet explained that we needed t sedate her and give her an injection into each eye. The injection would contain a liquid which will break down the fibrous build up (which when you looked into her eyes looked like spiders webs)
The vet explained that it was a simple procedure but would require me to help assist with her due to her temperament. After getting kitted out into full blue scrubs and wearing a surgical hat, we entered the operation theatre. I held her whilst she had the intravenous injection. She then fell asleep very gently. I held her head whilst the vet carried out the procedure. It sounds aggressive to have injections into her eyes, but she didn’t feel anything. The injection worked very quickly and you could see the web like structures disappear. We gave her a reversal of the anaesthetic and she slowly woke up. Her eyes were still sore and the drops had to be increased again to help with the inflammation. The first 24 hours she kept her eyes closed and just slept but she is now back to normal. Her vision is really good. The eyes look a little red still but she is much happier.
We have to go back to the vets again Monday afternoon but compared to what she looked like, I’m hoping it is good news. I will keep the blog updated with her progress.
